Escape the city grind and step into the lush, emerald landscapes of Southern Karnataka and Tamil Nadu with Negotrip. This 4-night retreat is designed for the practical traveler who wants to balance the misty peace of coffee plantations in Coorg with the colonial charm of Ooty’s blue mountains. We’ve mapped out a route that handles the tricky mountain driving and interstate logistics for you, starting from the “Scotland of India” and ending in the heart of the Nilgiris. Pick up from Bangalore (6:00 AM start recommended). The drive takes approximately 5.5 hours via the Mysore highway. Stop at the serene Cauvery Nisargadhama island for a walk among bamboo groves. Later, visit the Dubare Elephant Camp and the Bylakuppe Golden Temple before checking into your Coorg hotel.
Start your day at 9:00 AM exploring the historic Omkareshwara Temple and the sacred Talakaveri, the source of the river Kaveri. Later, head to the misty Abbey Falls (a manageable walk down) and end your evening at Raja’s Seat to catch a spectacular sunset over the rolling hills.
Check out and head toward Ooty (approx. 6 hours drive). The route takes you through the beautiful Bandipur or Mudumalai forest ranges. Upon arrival in Ooty, check into your hotel and spend a relaxed evening wandering through the Botanical Gardens or visiting the local Tea Factory to see how fresh tea is processed.
Head to Doddabetta Peak early for a bird’s-eye view of the surrounding valleys. Spend your afternoon at the Pykara Waterfalls and the famous Shooting Point (Wenlock Downs). Conclude your day with a peaceful boat ride on the Ooty Lake as the mountain air turns chilly.
Enjoy a final breakfast overlooking the hills. Take a short morning walk through the Pine Forest or visit the Rose Garden. We then begin our drive back to Bangalore (approx. 6 hours), dropping you at the airport or railway station for your onward journey.
The most pleasant weather is between October and May. While the monsoon months (July to September) make the hills incredibly lush and green, heavy rains can sometimes affect local sightseeing and mountain driving.
Both Coorg and Ooty can be quite chilly in the mornings and nights, especially Ooty. We recommend carrying a light jacket or sweater even in the summer. For daytime walking, comfortable sports shoes are a must.
While there isn’t a strict “uniform,” visitors are expected to dress modestly at the Golden Temple and Talakaveri. Please ensure your shoulders and knees are covered, and remember to remove your shoes before entering the prayer halls.
The drive is about 6 hours and involves winding mountain roads. If you are prone to motion sickness, we suggest sitting in the front seat and carrying basic medication. The route through the forest is very scenic and offers great photo opportunities.
