There is a profound, soul-stirring silence that only the deep Himalayas can offer, and the journey from Manali to Mantalai Lake is its perfect soundtrack. This 9-night adventure is far more than just a trek; it’s a raw and beautiful walk through the “hidden garden” of Himachal. You’ll start from the vibrant streets of Manali, climb through ancient pine forests teeming with wild irises, and finally stand at the crystal-clear source of the Parvati River, Mantalai Lake. This 4,116-meter trail is for those who want to trade city noise for the whistle of high-altitude winds and the warmth of natural sulphur springs. It’s a deeply personal encounter with the wild heart of the mountains, perfect for anyone looking to push their limits.

Your journey starts with a scenic 100km drive from Manali toward Manikaran. After visiting the famous hot springs, we begin our first gentle trek through lush forest roads to reach the peaceful village of Pulga, tucked away in the woods.
Today is a steady 10km climb through local fields and thick forests. You’ll arrive at the legendary Khirganga, a place of deep peace. Rejuvenate your tired muscles in the natural hot water springs while looking at the snowy peaks.
Leave Khirganga behind as you trek 18km toward Tunda Bhuj. The trail levels out beautifully, taking you through vibrant pastures filled with buttercups and wild poppies. It’s a long day, but the mountain views make every step feel like a gift.
The path becomes a bit more adventurous today. You’ll navigate through dense birch forests and skirt around rock faces that challenge your spirit. After 16km, you’ll reach the high-altitude camp at Thakar Kuan, surrounded by raw, untouched nature.
Trek 12km past seasonal shepherd camps. The highlight is crossing a side river via a massive, natural rock bridge known as Pandu Bridge. It’s a stunning example of nature’s raw engineering and a perfect spot for some wild photography.
Today is the big one. A 15km trek brings you to the sacred Mantalai Lake at 4,116 meters. Standing at the source of the river, surrounded by towering glaciers and peaks, is a moment of pure Himalayan magic.
Over the next three days, you will slowly retrace your steps back through the valley. This gives you a second chance to enjoy the riverside camps at Pandu Bridge, Thakar Kuan, and finally back toward Tunda Bhuj.
Your final trek brings you back to Barshaini. A private vehicle will be waiting to drive you back through the winding valley roads to Manali. You’ll leave the mountains with a massive sense of achievement and a heart full of stories.
This is a strenuous trek. It involves long walking days (up to 18km) and some steep climbing. You should be physically fit and have some prior experience with high-altitude walking.
During the trek, we source water from natural mountain springs. We recommend using water purification tablets if you have a sensitive stomach.
The best window is from mid-May to late September. Outside of these months, the higher reaches are often under heavy snow, making the lake unreachable.
Once you leave Barshaini, the mobile signal disappears. It’s best to inform your family that you will be “offline” for about 8–9 days.
